Gandel Hall is a majestic space in the heart of the National Gallery of Australia. The Hall is spacious, light-filled and exquisitely detailed with gold leaf doors and red, iron bark floors. The floor to ceiling windows open onto the Australian Terrace, permitting a
stunning outdoor area for events, that features brilliant views of the picturesque Australia Garden and James Turrell’s monumental Skyspace, Within Without.

Getting there:

The NGA is located in the heart of Canberra, near Parliament House, the High Court of Australia and next door to the National Portrait Gallery. You can also get to the NGA from the path around Lake Burley Griffin if you walk through the Sculpture Garden.

NGA paid parking applies on week days until 5pm. The main parking area is underground and accessible via King Edward Terrace off Parkes Place.

Limited mobility parking is available in both. Assisted lift access to the NGA is available only from the underground parking area.

By Bus:
The closest ACTION bus stop is on King Edward Terrace and Parkes Place East, just a short walk from the NGA. For timetable information visit ACTION buses or call 131 710.

As COVID-19 continues to be front of mind across the world, we wish to assure you that your health and safety is paramount and we have implemented additional measures around hygiene and safe food practices to reduce risk.

This will include the implementation of sanitising stations within the event facilities, and an increase in the regular cleaning services and public health messaging.

COVID-19 spreads just like the flu – therefore hygiene is so crucial to help prevent the spread of the virus. We urge everyone to remain vigilant and to help protect the community by following the recommendations of the World Health Organisation:

  • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand rub if your hands are not visibly dirty, before and after eating, and after going to the toilet.
  • When coughing and sneezing, cover mouth and nose with flexed elbow or tissue – discard tissue immediately into a closed bin and clean your hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.
  • Avoid physical greetings and contact (handshaking and kissing) and maintain distance between yourself and other people, particularly those who are coughing, sneezing and have a fever.
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth. If you have a fever, cough and or difficulty breathing, please seek medical care.

Please monitor yourself for any early signs; a sudden high temperature, feeling very ill, coughing and aches and pains all indicate a possible infection. Please seek immediate medical advice in case you observe any of these symptoms. If you do not feel well, please do not travel and do not attend the event.
