Team Leader Cultural Diversity & Community, City of Stirling
Sarah Janali manages the Cultural Diversity & Community team for the City of Stirling in WA. With a population of over 200,000 Stirling is the largest LGA in the Perth metropolitan area. It is also one of the most culturally diverse LGAs in WA with 36% of the population born overseas and over 15,000 residents having arrived in the last 5 years. In her ten years in local government Sarah has developed a range of programs and initiatives that celebrate the contributions of multicultural communities and create opportunities for newcomers to participate in community life. In 2015 Sarah Janali was awarded a Churchill Fellowship which enabled her to travel to the US, Canada and Europe to learn about innovative projects, programs and strategies that local governments are implementing to create welcoming communities. Prior to working in local government Sarah held various roles in the non-profit sector where she worked with newly arrived refugee families and developed support programs for refugee young people. Sarah has a Masters in International and Community Development.
