Economic Development Manager, Hume City Council
George has more than 35 years experience in leadership, management, training delivery and community and economic development. He was commissioned in to the Australian Regular Army in 1980, and served in a variety of training and operational appointments in Artillery before attending Army Command and Staff College during 1993. He completed a 2-year appointment in Hawaii in 1998/99 as a Strategic Planner with the US Marines, for which he was awarded the US Meritorious Service Medal. During his military career George undertook training in the UK and USA, and in turn delivered training in Malaysia, Singapore and New Zealand.

George left the Army in 2001 to take up an appointment as Manager Training and Development with the Country Fire Authority, based in Ballarat, with responsibility for more than 3000 volunteers and 100 staff. In 2006 he became the General Manager of Training and Community Services with BEST Community Development, a multi award winning regional not for profit organisation. In 2008 he took up a position on the Senior Management Team at Hume City Council in Melbourne’s North West where he is currently the Manager Economic Development.
